M odern artisan Indra Lall’s beautiful Manjusri is gilt in 24 kt, stands 12 inches and wields the magnificent sword that “cuts through ignorance”. Manjushri is the popular Bodhisattva of Wisdom, and was one of the Shakyamuni Buddha’s disciples. His name means “of marvelous virtue.” He represents mastery of the Dharma and mental perfection. In Japanese, he was known as Monju Bosatsu, in Chinese Wenshu and in Tibetan Jam-dpal.
